I left Weymouth College three years ago now and have been working in private practice as a psychotherapist, Supervisor and Trainer. My therapeutic training was initially at the Karuna Institute (a Buddhist based psychotherapeutic training which lasted four years). Subsequently I have trained in Constellation work, Bioenergetic training and Intregrative Supervision (an Advanced Training at The Karuna Institute).
Course Outline:
This is a course for Psychotherapists and Counsellors who have recently graduated (but not necessarily accredited) and for experienced therapists who would like to develop their practice with more experience, knowledge and understanding of psycho-somatic process.
There are three main themes to the course:
- Personal enquiry into the body through experiential work, ie. exploring your own relationship to the body;
- A deepening of knowledge and understanding of how our bodies take shape and form, and function, in response to psychological experience;
- An exploration of the various ways a therapist can involve and use the body in healing work
So, the course is a blend of personal experiential work; the expansion of knowledge/understanding via reading (printed notes), talks, discussion and demonstrations and seeing how the body can become a crucially important therapeutic friend in the process of bringing people more fully into the vitality of their life.
The organising ethos of the course is grounded in an integrative theoretical stance that is strongly influenced by Buddhist psychotherapeutic principles (CPP).
